William Morris Collection 2025
William Morris (1834-1896) was a British designer, writer, artist and social reformer. He is best known as a central figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement, which sought to revive traditional craftsmanship in reaction to the industrialization of the 19th century. Morris’s work spanned my disciplines and his influence remains significant in design, literature and socialism.
A unique collaboration
The William Morris Society (WMS), founded in 1955, is a charitable organization and cultural institution dedicated to preserving and promoting William Morris’s broad artistic and intellectual legacy. Based in Morris’s former home in London, the society operates a museum that houses many of Morris’s original works, manuscripts and personal items. It is also a membership organization that promotes research and actively engages in educational initiatives to raise awareness of Morris’s contributions to art, design, social reform and the lasting influence of the Arts and Crafts movement.
